Yugoslavia’s Rock Band Story Wins Big at Film Festival

The film, “Electric Yu-topia” (Yu Grupa – Trenutak sna), directed by Darko Lungulov, has garnered widespread acclaim. The jury’s glowing remarks about the film’s soundscape underscore its brilliance and highlight the immersive experience it offers, particularly on the grandeur of the big screen. In addition to this prestigious accolade, the film has also been recognized with the award for Best Editing, a testament to the remarkable skill of Miloš Korać. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to director Darko Lungulov and the entire film crew for their outstanding achievement in receiving the Grand Prix award, amidst stiff competition from 101 films screened as part of the festival’s program this year. Receiving an award at such a prestigious festival, steeped in a rich history of honoring excellence in filmmaking, is a tremendous success and an immense honor for us. We are deeply grateful for this recognition and remain committed to continuing our pursuit of excellence in the world of cinema. Electric Yu-topia is a 90-minute masterpiece that follows the journey of the rock and roll band YU Grupa, which outlived the country it was named after. It is also a story about a family and the three Jelić brothers, who grow up together with the new country, Yugoslavia. The film intertwines the fate of the country, the group, and the family in a creative and intimate way. The use of archival footage and never-before-seen Super 8 footage is masterfully woven into a story that follows more than 50 years of love, struggle, and success.
